Install the desktop app on Windows

Install Billet for your own Windows account. It takes a minute and needs no administrator rights.

Billet 1.0

Billet installs for your Windows account only, so you do not need administrator rights and Windows does not ask for permission.

Before you start

  • Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows Server 2019 or later, 64-bit.
  • The installer. Download Billet for Windows: it is always the current version, and saves as Billet-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe. Your IT team may give you a copy of its own instead.
  • Your organization's portal address, for example https://portal.example.com. You need it when you first sign in.

Install

  1. Run Billet-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe.
  2. Choose Create a desktop shortcut if you want one. It is off unless you tick it.
  3. Press Install. If Billet is already running, Setup closes it first.
  4. Leave Start Billet now ticked and press Finish.

Billet is installed to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Billet and appears in the Start menu as Billet.

What Setup changes

Besides copying the app, Setup makes this copy of Billet the program that opens:

  • billet:// links, which your organization's portal uses to open a desktop in the app, and
  • .billet files, which the portal can give you to download instead.

Nothing else on the computer changes. Billet does not install a service and does not need the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime.

Installing for many people at once

The installer is an Inno Setup package, so it accepts the standard silent switches. Run it as the person who will use Billet, not as an administrator, because it installs per user:

Billet-1.0.0-windows-x64-setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART

See Installer command-line options.
