Versions
A Billet version is three numbers, for example 1.0.12: the release line (1.0) and a build number. Every program in a release has the same version, and writes it as the first line of its log. The desktop app shows it in settings, under About.
The files
| File | What it is | Runs on |
|---|---|---|
Billet-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe |
The desktop app | People's Windows computers |
Billet-<version>-macos.pkg |
The desktop app, signed and notarized | People's Macs (Apple silicon and Intel) |
Billet-Host-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe |
Billet Host, including the Billet Stats Agent | Windows machines people connect to |
Billet-Stats-Agent-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe |
The Billet Stats Agent on its own | Windows Amazon DCV desktops |
Billet-Server-<version>-linux-x64.tar.gz |
The portal, the relay, and the Linux stats agent | Your Linux servers. The portal hands its stats agent to Linux Amazon DCV desktops. |
The files come in three groups (the app, the host files and the server), and each group has a SHA256SUMS file listing the checksum of each file in it.
Downloading the app
These two addresses always give the current release of the desktop app:
| Windows | https://license.billetstream.com/v1/downloads/billet-desktop/windows |
| Mac | https://license.billetstream.com/v1/downloads/billet-desktop/macos |
Link to them from your own pages to hand people the app, rather than to one version's file.
Check a download
On Linux, in the folder you downloaded to (--ignore-missing skips the files in the list you did not download):
sha256sum -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
On Windows, compare the output of this with the line for the file in the checksum list:
Get-FileHash .\Billet-Host-1.0.0-windows-x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
On a Mac, the package's signature is checked when you open it. To check it yourself:
pkgutil --check-signature Billet-1.0.0-macos.pkg
Upgrading
Upgrade the portal first, then relays, then hosts, then the desktop app. Run the portal's database step after installing a new portal:
sudo billet-portal-task db migrate -e production
See Install the portal.
