Assign a desktop to a person

Give a desktop its owner so it appears in their Billet app, share it view-only with someone else for a few hours, or test it yourself.

A desktop has one owner. The owner sees it in their Billet app and on the portal's page, and can connect to it.

Assign the owner

  1. In the console, open Desktops and choose the desktop.
  2. Choose Assign to a person.
  3. Fill in:
    • Person: the address they sign in to Billet with, for example jane@example.com. The box suggests people already in the tenant, but takes any address.
    • Account on the desktop: the Windows account their session runs as on this machine, for example ACME\jane. It is not their sign-in address. Getting it wrong gives them a desktop they cannot use.
  4. Press Assign desktop.

The desktop appears on their list the next time it refreshes. The audit log records you and the desktop.

To give the desktop to somebody else later, unassign the current owner first, from the desktop's page.

Share it view-only

Someone who needs to see what the owner sees, for training or support, can watch without control:

  1. On the desktop's page, choose Share view-only.
  2. Choose the Person, who must already have an account here, and For how long: between 1 and 24 hours.
  3. Press Share view-only.

It appears on their page under Shared with you, with a View button. They join the owner's session rather than starting one, so there is only something to see while the owner is connected. They can look and cannot touch.

The share ends by itself, or sooner from the desktop's page with Stop sharing....

Test a connection yourself

Test connection on the desktop's page makes the same short-lived, one-use session a person gets, without needing an assignment, and opens it for you.

  • Which way: through the relay is the path people actually get. Connect directly, not through the relay tests whether this machine itself can be reached.
  • Then Download the test connection, or Open in a browser tab.

Warning: A test takes the desktop's one seat. If the owner is connected, they are disconnected. Test an idle desktop.
